Mayor to Host Charity Ascot Afternoon

Date Released - 06/03/2024

NORMALLY it would be hats off to the Civic Mayor of Tameside, but when it comes to her latest charity fund-raiser it’s most definitely a case of hats on.

To mark International Women’s Day, Cllr Tafheen Sharif has partnered with the Umeed (Hope) women’s group to organise an Ascot-themed celebration at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday, March 8.

Ladies are asked to dress as they would for the famous race course’s royal enclosure – if they wish – including of course a hat.

Starting at 1pm for a 1.30 start, the event features afternoon tea, inspirational speeches and a raffle. Tickets (£10) are available from the mayor’s office on 07583 031 984.

The Mayor said: “Everyone likes a reason to dress up, and my Ascot afternoon offers the ideal opportunity to do that while supporting my charity appeal which comprises three very good causes that are close to my heart.

“I would like to thank Umeed for their help in organising the event which I hope will bring together people of all communities to mark International Women’s Day, and celebrate the important role women play in Tameside and their many achievements.

“It’s going to be a spectacular afternoon, with lots of fun and tasty treats. Please put your hat on and come and join us.”

The Civic Mayor’s charity appeal fund comprises Home-Start (HOST), which offers expert support to families with young children that are going through difficult times; West African Development, which helps ethnic minority communities in Tameside, and Pauline Town’s We Shall Overcome, which provides assistance for the homeless.
